I’ve officially decided to change the name of my Thursday series from “Liz Picks” to “The Liz List”. Thanks to everyone on Instagram who helped me come up with ideas! My last name makes coming up with clever titles tough, and alliteration is always a solid direction. 👊🏻

Here’s what’s on my list this week:

  • ENTERTAINING: So 👏🏻 much 👏🏻 YES 👏🏻 in this article about how to gracefully decline an invitation. The older I get, one thing that continues to befuddle me is just how many people out there don’t feel the need to RSVP when invited to an event. So in case no one never told you, then allow me - that’s RUDE, people! As someone who hosts a lot of events, I can’t think of anything more frustrating. It’s perfectly acceptable to decline an invitation (for any reason! even if you just need a night off!) as long as it’s done in a way that doesn’t offend the host. And if you’re someone who struggles with how to say no, then I highly recommend this article.

  • TRAVEL: Elizabeth Holmes dishes out the best travel advice in her recent New York Times article about “strategic luxury” when planning a trip. Bottom line: you’re not going to be able to afford to do everything you want the way you want to do it on vacation, so really think hard about what matters to you and spend your money there. For example, my husband and I always book direct flights because we’d much rather spend another couple hundred dollars than miss a connection, increase our risk of losing luggage, lose valuable beach time, etc. For us, the convenience is worth the extra money. In summary, going cheap on everything can really ruin a vacation. Just be strategic and choose to splurge where it matters to you!

  • TELEVISION: Beyonce is coming to Netflix, y’all! 💃🏻

  • CELEBRITY GOSSIP: I’ve been following the celebrity college admissions scandal very closely from the beginning (you know, the one with Aunt Becky). Such a juicy story! One thing I think is interesting is the difference between how Lori Loughlin is handling it vs. Felicity Huffman. I just read Huffman’s apology a couple days ago, and it struck me as sincere and heartfelt. On the other hand, Loughlin hasn’t publicly addressed the scandal and appears to be just going about her business as usual. While I get that she’s got to live her life, it’s not a good look PR-wise. Obviously they both screwed up, but how Huffman has handled herself in the wake of the scandal really makes me think better of her as a person. You can read her apology here.

  • HEALTH: Another day, another study released about diet. HA. But I found this one interesting. Here’s an excerpt: “Strikingly, researchers found more deaths were associated with not eating enough healthy foods rather than with eating too many unhealthy foods.” Basically, splurging on the occasional slice of pizza can be mitigated as long as you eat healthy most of the time!

That’s all for this week! Hope you enjoyed reading!
